Day dreaming of endless sunshine, jaw dropping coastlines and cocktail hour all day long? Us too. We’re not sure whether to be happy living vicariously through Elle, or to be insanely jealous. Regardless here’s a little sneak peak of her annual family holiday off the coast of Capri.

Lunch in Italy looks good! We try to buy all local produce wherever we can. It’s great to eat in season and to know our food hasn’t travelled too far. Today we are making a fresh Caprese salad with avocado, tomoato, mozzarella and basil drizzled with olive oil and balsamic.
Usually our days are busy doing sports and exploring together. We also tend to stay up late, keeping with the European late night vibe – so we all try and take an afternoon nap. Definitely not complaining about the location of this siesta!

Dr. Launcher suggests a ‘meat free day’ each week as a detox to reset your digestive system. Further to this, recent research at Harvard University found that just one meat-free day a week can reduce your risk of heart disease by up to 19% and cutting your weekly intake by the equivalent of a 450-calorie steak will limit weight gain by nearly half a stone over your next 10 years of flesh-eating.
Kale, sweet potato and hazelnut salad
- 80g prepped kale – stalks removed
- 40g red quinoa
- 40g black quinoa
- 100g sweet potato
- 15g roasted hazelnut – bashed into small bits
- 10g toasted coconut
- 15g goji berries
- 100g hazelnut dressing (instructions for dressing below)
- 10g salt for cooking quinoa
- 40g coconut oil
- 1⁄2 ripe avocado
- Start by preheating the oven to 190 celsius.
- Put the coconut into the oven for 3-4 minutes until lightly toasted, combine with the roasted hazelnuts. Set aside.
- Peel the sweet potato and cut into 2 cm-3cm cubes.
- Toss the sweet potato in a bowl with 20g coconut oil, salt/pepper to evenly coat and put into the oven to roast for 15 minutes or until nicely brown.
- Combine red and black quinoa into a pot with water and 1 tsp. sea salt. Cook red and black quinoa as if cooking pasta. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and cook for 12-15 minutes. While the quinoa and sweet potato are cooking, remove the stalks from the kale and cut into 2cm chiffonade.
- Remove avocado flesh and cut into cubes.
Putting the salad together:
- Massage kale with coconut oil until kale leaves have softened.
- Combine kale with sweet potato, quinoa, avocado and hazelnut dressing.
- Top with toasted hazelnuts and coconut flakes and goji berries.
- 40g roasted hazelnut
- 5g maple syrup
- 25g red wine vinegar
- 75 g olive oil
- 2 tbsp. hazelnut oil
- A few drops of water to thin out (optional)

A COCONUT SMOOTHIE BOWL ALMOST TOO PRETTY TO EAT
- 1 can coconut milk
- 2 bananas
- 1 teaspoon honey (optional)
- a handful thinly sliced almonds
- 3 teaspoons desiccated coconut (1 teaspoon each bowl)
- 6 teaspoons THE SUPER ELIXIR (2 teaspoons each bowl)
- 3 to 6 thinly sliced pieces of dragon fruit – use a star cookie cutter to shape.
- Using a blender – place coconut milk, bananas, honey and blend.
- Distribute amongst bowls – and evenly add almonds, desiccated coconut, THE SUPER ELIXIR and dragon fruit.
Serves 3 🙂
Ever tried to stop thinking? To block those pesky thoughts about bills to pay, texts to return or what’s on the menu for dinner tonight? It’s pretty impossible isn’t it? In our search we came across these four simple steps from Indian spiritual leader, Swami Nithyananda. We hope they resonate as much as they did for us.
- Say what you mean, mean what you say
Instead of making up excuses to avoid situations – you know the ones, the events you’re invited to by a friend that you don’t want to attend, or the coffee date with a far flung family friend you regret agreeing to as you are setting the date. Instead of making up an excuse, be truthful. Be authentic and compassionate, but be honest and the stress will melt away.
- Don’t say to anyone unless you can say to everyone
Basically, don’t gossip! Make a commitment to yourself that you won’t say anything to one person that you wouldn’t happily tweet to the world.
- Don’t say inside, what you cannot say outside
Whatever thought or inner chatter you have inside your head that you can’t say out loud to someone isn’t worth entertaining. Whether it’s self-criticism or negative thoughts about others. Stop them in their tracks. They are of no use to anyone.
- Don’t say unless it is true, useful or kind
Be conscious of what you say and only say it if any of the following is true:
- True to me? An authentic statement from my heart?
- Useful or helpful to someone or some situation?
- Kind or compassionate? Such as a compliment, or an offer of help?

A Swedish family participated in an experiment that we can’t believe hasn’t been done before. They ate only organic food for a fortnight and managed to rid their bodies of most traces of pesticides. Sounds so simple, right? Before the experiment, middle child Evelina’s urine was showing nearly five nanograms of chlormequat chloride per millilitre. Family eats organic for just two weeks, removes nearly all pesticides from body
A Swedish family has shown just how quickly an organic diet change can rid the body of pesticides.
In a fortnight-long experiment, the family of five – parents Anette and Mats, and kids Vendela, Evelina and Charlie – swapped their conventional diet for an organic one and found that just two weeks of eating an organic diet managed to rid their bodies of most traces of pesticides.
The video explaining the experiment, which was conducted by Swedish supermarket Coop and the Swedish Environmental Research Institute, has been viewed more than a million times on YouTube.
Before starting the diet, mother Anette explained that she did not normally buy organic food for the household.
“It costs more than conventional food and we’re a big family,” she said.
The researchers measured the levels of plant growth regulators chlormequat chloride, mepiquat, 3-PBA and cleaning agent TCP in urine samples taken from each family member before and after their two weeks of organic eating.
Before the experiment, middle child Evelina’s urine was showing nearly five nanograms of chlormequat chloride per millilitre. After eating only organic foods for two weeks, the chemical was unable to be detected in her sample.
The most profound effects were found in toddler Charlie’s samples. Despite his urine before the experiment showing high levels of all four of the chemicals, after the experiment none of the substances were detected.
While the experiment clearly showed that eating organically removed traces of pesticides in the bodies of participants, previous research has questioned whether eating an organic diet is actually beneficial to physical health.
An 2011 paper authored by researchers at the University of Sydney and published in Critical Reviews In Food Science And Nutrition found that the nutrients in organic and cheaper, conventional produce were comparable.
The paper reviewed the results of 66 studies conducted between 1980 and 2007 which compared the health benefits of food farmed without pesticides and herbicides, and food which was farmed using conventional methods.
However, they did not examine the potential effect of ingesting pesticides in their study.
In Australia, the amount of pesticides used on crops for consumption is regulated by the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code.
Standard 1.4.2 of the code sets the maximum residue limit (MRL) for various types of foods.
According to the code’s implementing body, Food Standards Australia and New Zealand, MRLs are “set well below the level that would be harmful, so a residue level slightly above the limit may indicate misuse but is very unlikely to pose a health risk”.
